Michael Caplin, Big Sur
Mike Caplin lives in the Palo Colorado area in Big Sur and has experienced close calls with the Kirk Complex Fire in 1999 and the Basin Complex Fire in 2008.
Those experiences, and his involvement in local coastal plan and county general plan development, has impressed him with the need to encourage regulators to allow and facilitate wildfire fuel reduction work wherever it is needed to protect lives, property or the environment.
Mike is a member of the Monterey County Wildfire Working Group, which is acting as a committee to the Monterey Fire Safe Council in drafting the Monterey County Community Wildfire Protection Plan. Mike was a volunteer firefighter with the Mid Coast Fire Brigade, is a member of the Big Sur Community Emergency Response Team, and is on the board of directors of the Coast Property Owners Association.
