Rob Thopmson, Professional Consultant, Carmel

Rob Thompson is a Resource Ecologist born and raised on the Monterey Peninsula. In 1995, he earned his Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Parks & Natural Resource Management from California State University, Chico. He is an International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) certified arborist; a soil erosion and sedimentation control specialist; a former firefighter and current member of the board of directors for the Monterey Fire Safe Council; and is licensed by the California Department of Pesticide Regulation as a Qualified Applicator.

Rob founded Thompson Wildland Management (TWM) in 2006 after 10+ years combined experience with the California Department of Parks and Recreation and the Santa Lucia Preserve in Carmel Valley, California. Rob was the Manager of Natural Resources at the Santa Lucia Preserve, where he protected and managed 18,000 acres of wildland habitat. Responsibilities included minimizing the impact of development activities on natural resources; promoting and implementing environmentally sustainable development and land-use actions; assisting with vegetation management and defensible space programs to reduce hazardous and destructive wildland fire fuel loads; preserving the rich and diverse natural, biological and cultural resources of the land; and restoring and improving the landscapes ecological communities using proven scientific principles and best management practices.
