Sign Up For Free Roadside Chipping
>>> IMPORTANT NOTE - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY <<<
By signing up to request Free Roadside Chipping, you will be put on a list so when we have funding to chip in your area we will know you are interested and can notify you.
Do not pile cuttings by the road expecting them to be chipped until you have been notified of the dates the chipping crews will be coming to your area.
If you do not sign up we will not be able to notify you when Free Roadside Chipping becomes available in your area.
Areas where we currently have funding coming to provide free chipping are roughly shown by the red circles on the map below. Please sign up even if your location is not within a red circle on the map.
Once you click on the SIGN UP FOR FREE CHIPPING! button below, you will be taken to a page that says "Chipper Days are coming up in your neighborhood!" and once you enter your address, you will likely be informed "Sorry, there are no planned pick ups in your area."
That is normal, and is only until we get enough sign ups in your neighborhood, and funding to chip in your area, at which time chipping crews will be scheduled for your area and you will be automatically notified.
Be certain that the address you enter is correct, or chipping crews may not be able to find your location once there is chipping in your area.
FSCMC realizes many of you signed up many months ago and have heard little from us. Some of you have expressed frustration. We apologize. This is the first time we have undertaken a project of this size and we are learning as we go. And we have been experiencing delays receiving grant funds and cannot move forward until they are received.
When we have funding and have enough sign ups in your neighborhood (about 20-30 properties near each other) that are in or near a red circle on the map below, we can then schedule chipping crews for your area, and if you signed up you will be notified.
To give you time to cut and pile vegetation cuttings near the road, you will be notified at least three weeks before chipping crews come through your area. Instructions on how to pile cuttings near the road are provided during the signup process.
Success with this current chipping program will help make future funding for county-wide Free Roadside Chipping more likely. Success will depend in part on your participation and cooperation. You can help by talking with your neighbors and suggesting they sign up as well. Spread the word!
Together we can work to make your home, your neighborhood, and eventually all of Monterey County safer in event of wildfire.
So, sign up by clicking the button below, and you will be notified when we have scheduled chipping crews to come chip in your area.

The Multi-Community Cooperative Chipping Grant for Monterey County is a collaboration between FSCMC, CAL FIRE, and fire districts. This program is working to improve equity within the county by including historically disadvantaged communities, particularly those in north and south Monterey County, which have generally not experienced such fuel reduction programs.
Goals of the mcc grant
Fire Prevention Education:
- Provide information on how to reduce the number of wildfires, structures destroyed, infrastructure damage and acres burned by providing wildfire fuel reduction training.
- Facilitate residents and landowners in creating defensible space by providing chipping at no cost.
Hazardous Fuel Reduction:
- Reduce vegetation along roads to reduce wildfire ignitions, intensity and rate of spread, and for safer ingress and egress during a wildfire.
Below are some examples of piles of cuttings that have been chipped for free during this program.
