Wildfire and You Workshop

Fire Safe Council For Monterey County (FSCMC) has developed a free online workshop, Wildfire and You, that you can take at any time, which shows you how to help protect your life and home in event of a wildfire by:
  • Planning for evacuation,
  • Reducing vegetation to create effective defensible space, and
  • Hardening your home to make it less likely to ignite during a wildfire.
You can go to the Wildfire and You workshop by clicking here.  Once there, if you have not yet enrolled in the workshop, click on the Enroll for free button, then create a free account, or, if you already have an account click on the "I already have an account!" link and log in.

Wildland fires are a fact of life in California and can affect all of us, but seniors and disabled are at a higher risk. It’s essential, then, for this population and the people who care for them to give a lot of thought on how best to prepare.

Firewise USA® is a voluntary program that provides a framework to help neighbors get organized, find direction and take action to increase the ignition resistance of their homes and community. During this workshop you will receive help with overcoming some to the challenges of the certification process, learn about the many helpful resources and benefits of certification and actually earn credits toward the documented work required to prepare your action plans.

This year, let's do more than just talk about trying to create communities that are safer in the event of a wildfire. Let’s take steps to make a difference. We can not only dream bigger about wildfire safety this year - we can act. Research has proven that simple, low-cost steps can improve the survivability of neighborhoods and homes, and help protect those we love.  So, let’s get started making that dream of communities that can survive wildfire come true!
